Gwangju and Jeonnam Near 20,000 Daily COVID-19 Cases

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The number of COVID-19 confirmed cases in the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions has approached 20,000 per day.
According to the quarantine authorities on the 12th, the number of confirmed cases in Gwangju and Jeonnam the previous day was 8,954 and 10,218 respectively, totaling 19,172 cases.
Since surpassing 10,000 on the 1st, the spread has accelerated to nearly 20,000 in just 10 days.
The daily confirmed cases were recorded as follows: 10,255 on the 1st, 12,242 on the 2nd, 13,186 on the 3rd, 13,374 on the 4th, 12,363 on the 5th, 12,212 on the 6th, 12,487 on the 7th, 15,375 on the 8th, 14,770 on the 9th, 17,844 on the 10th, and 19,172 on the 11th.
Among the 8,954 confirmed cases in Gwangju, those under 20 years old accounted for 2,833, making up 31.6% of the total, the highest proportion, followed by people in their 20s with 1,391 cases, or 15.5%.
Eight deaths were reported the previous day, raising the cumulative death toll to 170. The number of critically ill patients is 31.
In the Jeonnam region, sporadic infections continue across 22 cities and counties.
Suncheon City reported 1,628 confirmed cases, followed by Yeosu with 1,595, Mokpo with 1,458, Gwangyang with 765, Naju with 667, Muan with 636, Hwasun with 515, Yeongam with 370, Haenam with 345, and Wando with 320 cases.

A quarantine official stated, "Infections are exploding mainly among acquaintances and family members," and urged, "If you show cold symptoms, please test immediately with a self-test kit and refrain from outdoor activities."
