Hong Joon-pyo, then a presidential primary candidate of the People Power Party, is announcing the 'Comprehensive Policy Shift for the Era of G7 Advanced Countries' at the JP Hope Camp in Yeouido, Seoul, on the morning of October 30 last year.

[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Jung-wan] Hong Joon-pyo, a member of the People Power Party, expressed his intention to run for mayor of Daegu, saying, "Now I will leave central politics to President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol and plan to move downward."
On the 11th, Hong stated on his online platform 'Cheongnyeon-ui Kkum' (Youth's Dream), which he operates, "After many twists and turns, the regime change has been achieved," and added, "Now it is time to move downward comfortably."
He explained, "With the dream of remodeling the Republic of Korea frustrated, I decided to move downward with the thought that it is right to remodel Daegu, which raised me, first."
He continued, "I feel much more at ease than when I moved downward 10 years ago as governor of Gyeongnam," and said, "Even if I move downward, I will continue tv Hongkacola and Cheongnyeon-ui Kkum. I will keep communicating and hope for more guidance."
Later, in response to a netizen's comment saying, "I hope you make your candidacy declaration first on Cheongnyeon-ui Kkum," Hong replied, "I announced my intention to run today."
The next Daegu mayoral election will be held on June 1, one month after the inauguration of the 20th president. Hong's deadline to resign from his National Assembly seat is May 2, 30 days before the election.

However, with Hong's candidacy, a by-election for the National Assembly seat of Suseong-gu Eul, Daegu, is also expected to be held together with the local elections. According to the law, to hold the Daegu Suseong-gu Eul by-election simultaneously with the local elections, the resignation must be submitted by April 30.
