On the 10th, the county announced that as of the end of February, a total of 30,510 athletes visited Haenam without any spread of COVID-19 during the winter training camp.
This figure is more than double compared to the same period last year and is analyzed to have played a significant role in overcoming the local economic crisis caused by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
Haenam-gun has been recognized as a representative winter training site attracting an average of 30,000 athletes annually, but after the spread of COVID-19, the number of visitors decreased to about 28,000 in 2020 and 15,000 in 2021.
As a result, local lodging businesses and restaurants continued to suffer, prompting Haenam to establish separate quarantine guidelines and actively promote the attraction of safe winter training camps.
The county focused on inviting teams that visit Haenam annually, reducing the scale of training camps, while requiring prior submission of health questionnaires and PCR test results. During the training period, strict adherence to quarantine rules such as temperature checks and disinfection was maintained, resulting in zero COVID-19 infections from the training camps.
Haenam-gun, which has the most sports facilities among county-level areas in the province, has concentrated sports facilities within 10 minutes of the Useul Stadium, allowing athletes to conduct everything from basic physical training to various sports competitions without traveling far, making it one of the most efficient training facilities nationwide.
Myung Hyun-kwan, the mayor of Haenam-gun, stated, "We plan to operate safe sports marketing by implementing double and triple quarantine measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 during national competitions. We ask for much cooperation as it is a situation where neither the revitalization of local small businesses struggling with their livelihoods nor the prevention of COVID-19 spread can be neglected."
