Jeju Coast Guard to Recruit 'Model Ships for Marine Environment Management' Starting from the 14th
[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] Jeju Maritime Police Station (Chief Park Sangwook) announced on the 10th that it will recruit ‘Exemplary Vessels for Marine Environment Management’ from the 14th to October 30th, 2022, to revitalize the exemplary vessel system.
The Exemplary Vessels for Marine Environment Management system provides incentives to vessels that diligently prevent marine pollution by thoroughly managing marine pollution prevention facilities and properly disposing of oil and waste.
This recruitment targets South Korean-flagged vessels with a total tonnage of 200 tons or more for general vessels or 50 tons or more for oil tankers (including vessels carrying hazardous liquid substances), and vessels that have no violations of the Marine Environment Management Act within the past five years (excluding barges and public institution vessels).
Applications for the Exemplary Vessels for Marine Environment Management can be submitted directly by the shipowner or captain by visiting or calling the Marine Pollution Prevention Division of Jeju Maritime Police, and vessels may also be selected based on the exemplary vessel evaluation form during vessel entry and exit inspections by Jeju Maritime Police.
If selected as an exemplary vessel, various benefits will be provided, including exemption from marine pollution-related entry and exit inspections for the next three years and a reduction of up to half of fines imposed for violations of the Marine Environment Management Act.
A Jeju Maritime Police official said, “We encourage vessel workers to take an active interest in protecting the marine environment and participate actively in preventing marine pollution so that they can be selected as exemplary vessels and help preserve the clean seas of Jeju.”
