"Let's Help Wildfire Victims on the East Coast"... Donation Relay by Domestic IT and Game Industries
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] Domestic IT and gaming industries have rolled up their sleeves to support wildfire damage recovery and aid for disaster victims in Gyeongbuk Uljin, Gangneung, Samcheok, and other areas in Gangwon Province.
Kakao announced on the 8th that more than 590,000 users participated in the emergency fundraising for wildfire damage recovery support currently underway on its social contribution platform 'Kakao Together,' raising over 1.2 billion KRW in donations.
Earlier, starting from the evening of the 4th, Kakao opened donation boxes for fundraising in collaboration with Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association, Good Neighbors, World Vision, and Community Chest of Korea. This fundraising campaign was widely spread through various SNS channels over the weekend amid high user interest, attracting participation from more than 340,000 people in just two days.
Kakao Chairman Kim Beom-su also decided to donate personal shares worth approximately 1 billion KRW to the Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association to share the will of the users.
NCSoft, a leading domestic game company, also decided to donate 500 million KRW for wildfire damage recovery. The donation will be entrusted to the Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association and used for damage recovery and relief supplies support in the Gyeongbuk and Gangwon regions.
NCSoft stated, "We hope this donation will help local residents affected by the sudden disaster and those dedicated to wildfire suppression."
Pearl Abyss also decided to donate 100 million KRW to assist wildfire suppression. The donation will be delivered to the Gyeongbuk Fire Headquarters and Gangwon Fire Headquarters through the Korea Firefighters Association, and used to purchase firefighting supplies such as dust masks and eye protection goggles necessary for fire suppression and smoldering fire treatment.
