Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters Prepares Spring Fire Prevention Measures... Inspections of Large Construction Sites, etc.
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters will implement spring fire prevention measures until the end of May.
The Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters announced on the 8th that it has prepared the 'Spring Fire Prevention Measures,' focusing on ▲ safety measures at construction sites ▲ safety inspections of multi-use facilities ▲ safety management of residential facilities ▲ safety management of event venues to prevent large-scale fires and minimize casualties among residents during spring.
First, the Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters will conduct guidance inspections and fire prevention safety consulting at construction sites led by fire station chiefs. In addition, surprise inspections will be conducted at large construction sites with a total floor area of 30,000㎡ or more.
To eliminate fire risk factors, fire safety education will be provided to construction workers and related personnel, and the 'Volunteer Firefighter Fire Safety Keeper' system will be expanded at large construction sites.
Furthermore, by the end of this month, special fire inspections will be conducted on 465 warehouse facilities in the province in cooperation with related agencies. Considering events such as the presidential and local elections, the 'Special Management Period for Preventing Large Fires' at multi-use facilities will be extended until the end of May.
Additionally, using temporary workers, a full survey of rooftop evacuation facilities in all apartment complexes in the province will be conducted, along with fire safety consulting for vulnerable groups, including safety usage guidance for electrical and gas facilities in residential vinyl greenhouses (2,572 locations) and container houses (308 locations).
In preparation for mass gatherings such as Children's Day and Buddha's Birthday, special fire inspections will also be conducted on playgrounds, amusement parks (tourist sites), and temples.
Choi Byung-il, head of the Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters, emphasized, "We plan to establish and implement customized fire safety measures tailored to seasonal characteristics and target groups to create a safe Gyeonggi-do without large fires." He added, "We will strengthen guidance and crackdowns to reduce fires, such as illegal disposal of cigarette butts and unauthorized burning, through cooperation with local governments."
According to the Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters, from 2017 to 2021, the average daily number of fires in the Gyeonggi area during spring (March to May) was 29.1, exceeding the annual average daily number of fires of 25.2. The average daily casualties were also higher in spring at 1.7 compared to 1.6 throughout the year.
