'Departure of Ukrainian Volunteer Fighters'... Ministry of Foreign Affairs Warns "Up to 1 Year Imprisonment for Unauthorized Entry"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Amid reports of some Korean nationals departing to join as volunteer soldiers in the wartime situation in Ukraine, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has warned that "unauthorized entry may result in up to one year of imprisonment."
On the 7th, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded to recent reports of Korean citizens showing interest in joining the International Volunteer Corps in Ukraine, stating, "Unauthorized entry into Ukraine constitutes a violation of the Passport Act and may lead to criminal penalties as well as administrative sanctions on passports."
They further warned that violators may face imprisonment of up to one year or a fine of up to 10 million KRW under Article 26 of the Passport Act. Additionally, under Articles 12, 13, and 19 of the Passport Act, administrative measures such as ▲passport surrender ▲invalidating the held passport ▲refusal or restriction of new passport issuance may be imposed.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged, "We strongly ask our citizens to fully recognize that Ukraine is currently in a state of war and to refrain from entering Ukraine, a travel-restricted country, without permission."
