Incheon City Launches Pilot Project for 'Same-Day Delivery' in Songdo Using Public Parking Lots
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Incheon City is piloting a service that drastically reduces the delivery stages and times of parcel delivery to enable same-day delivery.
On the 6th, the city announced that its project, "Same-Day Parcel Delivery Service through the Establishment of a Shared Logistics Network," was selected in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's digital logistics service demonstration project competition.
The key feature of this project is that, unlike the existing delivery collection and sorting system centered on logistics warehouses, it uses a vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) method by utilizing shared parking lots to transfer goods directly from one vehicle to another, reducing delivery time to a maximum of 8 hours.
This delivery system will enable local small business owners to secure competitiveness against large corporations with large-scale distribution means. Additionally, all vehicles involved in the delivery process will be environmentally friendly electric cargo vehicles.
The city plans to conduct the pilot project centered on Songdo International City this year, expand the project scope to Jung-gu, Dong-gu, Michuhol-gu, Yeonsu-gu, and Namdong-gu next year, and extend the service throughout Incheon the year after next.
This project involves V2V Co., Ltd., Incheon Institute, Inha University, and local residents participating together in a living lab format to continuously advance the service.
Also, cooperating companies include Lotte Global Logistics Co., Ltd., Samyoung Logistics Co., Ltd., Fastbox Co., Ltd., NS Home Shopping Co., Ltd., Humax Co., Ltd., Hi-Parking Co., Ltd., and OneKey Co., Ltd.
