Gwangju City Election Commission Files Criminal Complaint Against Voter Who Photographed and Disclosed Ballot Paper

The Gwangju Metropolitan Election Commission announced on the 5th that it has reported Mr. A to the Gwangju District Prosecutors' Office on charges of photographing and disclosing their ballot paper at the early voting station for the 20th presidential election (violation of the Public Official Election Act).
Mr. A is accused of photographing the ballot paper they marked along with their driver's license the day before and posting it in a KakaoTalk group chat with at least 100 participants.
No one is allowed to photograph the ballot paper inside the voting booth, and voters are prohibited from disclosing the ballot paper they marked.
Under the Public Official Election Act, a person who photographs a ballot paper may face imprisonment for up to 2 years or a fine of up to 4 million won, and a person who infringes on the secrecy of voting may face imprisonment for up to 3 years or a fine of up to 6 million won.

A Gwangju Election Commission official stated, “We will actively guide voters to prevent such acts during the remaining voting period,” and added, “We will strictly take measures according to relevant regulations against election crimes that disturb the secrecy of voting, interfere with fair and peaceful voting procedures, and affect voters' fair judgment, thereby undermining election order.”
