German Specialty Magazine Chooses Hyundai Over Mercedes in Electric Vehicle Comparison Review
Hyundai Ioniq 5 Surpasses Mercedes-Benz EQB in German Auto Bild Comparison Review
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] German automotive specialist media Auto Bild ranked Hyundai Motor's Ioniq 5 ahead of Mercedes-Benz's dedicated electric vehicle EQB in a recent electric car comparison evaluation.
According to Hyundai Motor on the 4th, the latest issue No. 9 of Auto Bild compared the two models across a total of 53 detailed items in 7 categories including body, convenience, and powertrain. Summing the total scores for each evaluation category, out of a perfect score of 800 points, the Ioniq 5 received 582 points, while the EQB scored 562 points. This media outlet is regarded as the most authoritative in Germany, the homeland of automobiles.
By category, the Ioniq 5 was rated better or similar in 5 categories except for convenience and connected car, two categories where it was not superior. The company highly valued the fact that, excluding the economic advantage often cited for non-European brands, the Ioniq 5 was evaluated as better in pure performance and technical evaluation items compared to the high-end German brand.
In the powertrain technology category, which was divided into 9 detailed items, the Ioniq 5 was better in 4 items and similar in 5 items. The charging performance evaluation showed a large gap, with the Ioniq 5 scoring 9 points compared to EQB's 5 points. Acceleration from start, top speed, and accelerator pedal responsiveness also received favorable evaluations. It was superior in agility, traction, braking performance, as well as vehicle space utilization and loading performance.
Earlier, in an evaluation conducted by the local specialist media Auto Zeitung last month, the Ioniq 5 ranked first among 5 SUV models. The company stated, "It is encouraging to receive excellent evaluations in advanced markets such as Europe and in Germany, the home of premium brands."
