1 Bottle 14,900 Won 'Park Jaebum Wonsoju', Initial Stock of 20,000 Bottles Sold Out Within 1 Week of Release
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Eun-mo] The premium soju "Wonsoju," launched by singer Park Jaebeom, sold out its initial stock within a week of release.
On the 4th, Wons Spirits, the manufacturer of Wonsoju, announced that all 20,000 bottles of the initial production batch were sold out as of the previous day (the 3rd).
Wonsoju is a premium distilled soju introduced by Wons Spirits, a brewing company led by singer Park Jaebeom. It gained fame even before its release as it is rare for a celebrity to enter the liquor business in Korea. It is characterized by using domestically produced rice, employing vacuum distillation, and aging in Onggi (traditional Korean earthenware). It was officially launched on the 25th of last month and was sold at a pop-up store in The Hyundai Seoul, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, until the previous day.
Despite the "not cheap price" of 14,900 KRW per bottle, a line of consumers waiting for the store to open ("open run") formed every day in front of the store. The purchase limit, initially set at 12 bottles per person, was also reduced to 4 bottles.

Additional production of Wonsoju is currently underway, and it will be sold online from the end of this month as it is classified as traditional liquor. According to current law, online sales of alcoholic beverages are generally prohibited. However, since 2017, online sales and purchases have been allowed only for traditional liquors defined by the Traditional Liquor Industry Act, such as intangible cultural heritage liquors, food master liquors, and regional specialty liquors.
