Hyundai Steel to "Identify Cause of Worker Death Accident and Establish Measures to Prevent Recurrence"
[Asia Economy Reporter Donghoon Jeong] Hyundai Steel announced that it will actively cooperate with relevant authorities to identify the cause and establish measures to prevent recurrence following an accident in which a worker at Hyundai Steel's Dangjin Steelworks fell into a large container (plating pot) and died.
On the 2nd, Hyundai Steel issued a statement saying, "A tragic accident occurred in which one of our employees lost their life," and added, "We bow our heads in deep condolences for the precious life that was lost."
It continued, "We have currently established an accident response team and are actively cooperating with relevant authorities, doing our utmost to swiftly manage the accident and identify its cause," and "We promise to prioritize accident countermeasures and safety inspections to ensure that such accidents do not happen again."
Furthermore, the company stated, "We will sincerely use all available means to responsibly handle follow-up measures for the deceased and their bereaved family," once again expressing condolences for the deceased.
The accident occurred around 5:40 a.m. at the 1st Cold Rolling Plant of Hyundai Steel's Dangjin Steelworks located in Dangjin-si, Chungnam Province. The deceased, identified as employee A, was a Hyundai Steel staff member. It is reported that A fell into a plating pot (equipment used to heat solid plating agents into liquid form) and died.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Employment and Labor immediately ordered a work stoppage at Hyundai Steel and is reportedly investigating whether there was a violation of the Serious Accident Punishment Act and the detailed circumstances of the accident at the scene.
