Youth Counseling 1388 Opens Facebook Consultation Window
Participation Event for Sharing New Semester Concerns Until the 16th
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family and the Korea Youth Counseling and Welfare Institute have added a Facebook counseling channel to Youth Counseling 1388 in time for the new semester.
Youth Counseling 1388 is a non-face-to-face online counseling service available 24/7, 365 days a year, accessible via computer or smartphone. In addition to online and phone counseling, consultations are also available through KakaoTalk and text messages, and recently, a Facebook counseling channel was opened.
About 30% of cyber counseling cases over the past three years have been concentrated in the spring new semester period. The number of counseling cases during this period has also been increasing annually.
According to statistics from the Youth Cyber Counseling Center of the Korea Youth Counseling and Welfare Institute, the number of counseling cases during last year’s new semester was 90,835, an increase of about 10,000 compared to the previous year. The total number of counseling cases for last year was 311,258.
Stress from common adolescent issues during the new semester, such as friendships and academic concerns, combined with the COVID-19 situation, can cause deep anxiety and depression, making it necessary to resolve these through consultation with experts.
The Youth Cyber Counseling Center offers 1:1 chat counseling with professional counselors and provides online psychological tests so that youth and parents can identify and diagnose their concerns themselves.
Along with the spread of COVID-19 and the start of the new semester, the Youth Cyber Counseling Center is conducting an online participation event called "New Semester Worries Sharing" to help solve youth concerns until the 16th of this month.
