Gwangju Seo-gu Council Passes Ordinance on 'Gwangju Apartment Collapse Accident Response Support Team' and Others

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] The Seo-gu Council of Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 28th that it passed an ordinance related to the establishment and staffing of the Hwajeong I-Park Accident Response Support Team after the final vote at the 2nd plenary session of the 301st extraordinary meeting.

During the 301st extraordinary meeting starting on the 21st, the council listened to the 2022 district administration major work plans and reviewed and deliberated on nine general agenda items.

In particular, the council passed the “Partial Amendment to the Ordinance on the Establishment of Administrative Organizations in Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City” and the “Partial Amendment to the Ordinance on the Number of Local Public Officials in Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City,” which focus on the response to the collapse accident at the Hyundai Development Company apartment construction site.

The temporary I-Park Accident Response Support Team will consist of about 20 members, organized into two divisions (Damage Support Division and Accident Response Support Division) and five teams (General Support Team, Family and Store Damage Support Team, Major Disaster Prevention Team, Prospective Resident Response Team, and Regional Building Safety Center Team).

A director-level official at grade 4 will lead the team, which will be responsible for mediation and support related to damage compensation, prevention of industrial and civic disasters, dismantling, and reconstruction work.

Kim Tae-young, chairman of the Seo-gu Council, said, “The council swiftly passed the ordinance to ensure that those suffering from this accident can receive damage compensation and support as soon as possible. I also thank Chairman Kim Young-seon of the Planning and General Affairs Committee, Seo-gu council members of the relevant standing committee, and officials from the city and district offices for their help in enabling close cooperation in advance between the council and the city and district offices.”
