US Intelligence Agencies Warn "Russia May Capture Kyiv Capital Within Days"
[Asia Economy New York=Special Correspondent Joselgina] On the 25th (local time), CNN reported, citing multiple sources, that U.S. intelligence agencies assess that Russia, which invaded Ukraine, could capture the capital Kyiv within a few days.
According to sources, the U.S. had anticipated that Kyiv could be occupied within one to four days before Russia's invasion, and this assessment remains unchanged. A U.S. official stated during a congressional briefing the previous night that Russian troops had moved within 20 miles (32 km) of Kyiv. However, CNN added that there was no mention of the capital's capture at that briefing.
Major foreign media also previously reported that Russian armored units advanced near Kyiv and that loud explosions were heard in Kyiv.
The West, including the U.S., has warned that Russia aims to overthrow the Ukrainian regime and establish a proxy government close to Russia. U.S. President Joe Biden said at a press conference the day before that President Putin has ambitions far beyond Ukraine, stating, "He wants to rebuild the Soviet Union." AFP and other agencies reported that on the same day, Russian President Vladimir Putin urged the Ukrainian military to eliminate the national leadership.
