[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] The Korea Forest Service announced on the 24th that it held this year's first tree planting event on Gogeumdo Island, Wando, Jeollanam-do. The first tree planting signifies the start of the tree planting season from the southern part of the Korean Peninsula, serving as an indicator of climate change. The event began in 2010 on Jeju Island and has been held annually since then. On this day, about 1,600 six-year-old Hwangchil trees (1.2m tall) were planted. Participants in the tree planting event, including Choi Byung-am, head of the Korea Forest Service (first from the left), and Shin Woo-cheol, mayor of Wando County (third from the left), are planting Hwangchil trees.
