Wando-gun Develops Garipo Sunset Road... Expanding Tourism Infrastructure

[Wando＝Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyung-pil] Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it will invest a total project cost of 4 billion KRW by 2024 to create the ‘Garipo Sunset Road’.

The Garipo 10-ri (4km), where the ‘Garipo Sunset Road’ will be created, is a coastal road (National Route 77) along which you can enjoy the coastal scenery, stretching from Daesin-ri, Wando-eup to Daemun-ri, Gunoe-myeon.

The Garipo Sunset Road will be developed with four themes.

These include the ‘Wando Landmark Road’ linked with tourist attractions, the ‘Wando Trace Road’ reflecting the unique sentiment of Garipo such as the lives of nearby village residents, the ‘Wando Village Road’ where you can experience fishing village culture, and the ‘Wando Coastal Road’ where you can walk along the coast and enjoy the sunset.

Along the Sunset Road, there are three parks?Miso Park, Gaetbaram Park, and Sunset Park?where visitors can rest while passing through.

It is also planned to connect with nearby tourist sites such as Sosepo Set and Wando Arboretum, and install photo zones and sculptures.

Once the Garipo Sunset Road is established, it is expected to restore fragmented spaces and contribute to the local economy through tourism revitalization by linking tourism resources.

In the first half of this year, the design service will be completed, and in the second half, facility construction will be promoted with the goal of completion in 2024.

A county official said, “We will continuously discover tourism resources that highlight Wando’s unique characteristics to invigorate the tourism industry.”
