"Safety First" Gyeongsangnam-do Invests 24.6 Billion Won to Prevent Child Traffic Accidents
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Jucheol In] Gyeongsangnam-do announced on the 23rd that it will invest 26.4 billion KRW to improve facilities in child protection zones to prevent traffic accidents involving children.
Gyeongnam Province currently designates and operates 832 child protection zones. Last year, through demand surveys by city and county with related organizations such as the National Police Agency and the Office of Education, locations requiring traffic safety facilities such as child protection zone improvement projects and unmanned traffic enforcement equipment were selected.
First, traffic safety facilities such as speed bumps, anti-slip pavement, and safety signs will be expanded at 66 locations within child protection zones. In particular, in consultation with the Office of Education, safe school routes will be constructed on school grounds at five schools that currently have no school routes.
Additionally, 191 unmanned traffic enforcement devices and 95 traffic signals will be installed, and supplementary facilities such as the maintenance of 12 intersections and road markings at 36 boarding and alighting zones and route terminals will be carried out simultaneously.
Smart traffic safety facilities that can alert drivers and ensure pedestrian safety will also be installed at 49 locations, actively installing necessary facilities and equipment for child traffic safety such as speed displays, crosswalk floor traffic lights, and voice guidance systems.
