Between Chungcheong, Lee Jae-myung says, "Yoon says 'I'll just put THAAD there,' but this Western bundle includes balanced development"
On the 23rd, Lee: "Yoon, who says THAAD will be deployed, is creating anxiety... Must guarantee a peace regime on the Korean Peninsula"
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon, Dangjin=Reporter Lee Myung-hwan] Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea, criticized Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, on the 23rd, saying, "To revive the economy, society must be stable," and targeted Yoon's remark about deploying THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) by saying, "Saying 'just put it in Chungcheong-do' makes the geopolitical crisis even more difficult."
At a campaign rally held at Dangjin Fish Market that afternoon, Lee referred to Yoon's statement on additional THAAD deployment, saying, "Why create such anxiety? This is security populism."
Lee said, "The war crisis on the Korean Peninsula has escalated in the U.S.," adding, "The reason is candidate Yoon." He emphasized, "Foreign capital is withdrawing, and when borrowing money from abroad, they demand higher interest. Stock prices fall, and investments decrease," stressing, "No more North wind, gunfire, division, conflict, and hatred."
He continued, "Who will guarantee the peace regime on the Korean Peninsula, build infrastructure so companies can invest with confidence, nurture talent through education reform, invest in basic science, and convert the Dangjin steelworks to renewable energy?" drawing applause.
In particular, Lee highlighted his spouse Kim Hye-kyung's origin from Chungju, Chungbuk, calling himself the "son-in-law of Chungcheong," and said, "This son-in-law does not carry things like THAAD."
He added, "This son-in-law carries things like economic development and balanced development," and asked, "Do you want to see what kind of bundle this son-in-law brought?"
Lee promised, "Lee Jae-myung's transition team will be a special committee for overcoming COVID-19," and pledged, "With the 100-day project for restoring people's livelihoods, we will implement flexible and smart quarantine measures, and at the moment of election, compensate for COVID losses through a supplementary budget of 50 trillion won or emergency financial orders, and grant credit amnesty."
