Ulsan, Ulju-gun 'Onggi Festival' Wins 10th Korea Festival Content Award
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] The ‘Ulsan Onggi Festival,’ the representative festival of Ulju-gun, won the Grand Prize in the Festival Economy category at the 10th Korea Festival Contents Awards 2022 hosted by the Korea Festival Contents Association.
Last year, the Ulsan Onggi Festival was held from October 1 to 8 under the theme ‘2021 Welcome to Onggi Village,’ hosted and organized by Ulju-gun and the Ulju Cultural Foundation. To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the festival was converted into a fully non-face-to-face online festival the day before the opening, but it achieved participation of 480,000 people online through the long-prepared online ‘Onggi Theme Park’ and YouTube channel ‘Onggi TV.’
Now in its 10th year, the Korea Festival Contents Awards have been held annually since 2013 as a representative festival awards ceremony in Korea. This year, despite the COVID-19 crisis, 28 festivals were selected through a public contest and review committee targeting local governments and festival-related organizations that successfully held online and offline festivals.
The Ulsan Onggi Festival, held from October 1 to 8 last year under the slogan ‘Welcome to Onggi Village,’ operated diverse online content through the online ‘Onggi Theme Park,’ which realized Onggi Village in VR, and the YouTube channel ‘Onggi TV.’
In particular, the online Onggi Theme Park expanded the online festival space centered on YouTube with village explanations by the Haetteumi character in the VR Onggi Village, ‘Find the Hidden Haetteumi Onggi,’ and ‘Onggi Quiz,’ encouraging active participation from viewers.
County Governor Lee Seon-ho said, “I am pleased that this award recognizes the economic development potential of the Ulsan Onggi Festival. This year, we will grow into a more advanced cultural tourism festival by strengthening the historicity and tradition of Onggi culture and developing various online contents.”
