Establishment of Comprehensive Animal Welfare Measures: Awareness Improvement, Strengthening Stray Animal Protection, and Installation of Public Clinics
[Damyang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] On the 23rd, Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it will promote a comprehensive animal welfare plan to create a society where people live together with animals in the era of 15 million companion animals.
The county has established 9 detailed tasks in 3 areas to enhance public consensus for the establishment of a mature companion animal culture, and aims to contribute to the realization of animal welfare by establishing a disease treatment and infectious disease prevention management system through the opening of Jeollanam-do’s first county-operated public clinic for companion and abandoned animals.
In addition, the abandoned animal shelter will be renamed the ‘Abandoned Animal Healing Center’ to support not only simple protection of abandoned animals but also the activation of adoption and healing of wounds caused by abandonment.
Furthermore, a person in charge will be designated at each eup and myeon office to introduce an abandoned dog adoption helper system, and administrative and related agencies are supporting necessary items for adoption when adoption is possible.
Currently, among the 28 animals scheduled for adoption, 14 have found new homes at eup and myeon offices and business sites.
In addition, the county plans to make multifaceted efforts to establish a proper companion animal culture, including participating in the national government subsidy project for the construction of the Abandoned Animal Healing Center and various animal welfare campaigns.
