[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Dooyul] Dong-Eui University held a ‘Metaverse Virtual Campus Graduation Event’ after canceling the ‘2021 Academic Year First Semester Degree Conferment Ceremony’ schedule due to COVID-19 on the 18th.
The graduation event held in the Minecraft virtual campus from 2 PM to 10 PM on the 18th featured archery, curling, racing games, and a graduation cap event.
Graduation congratulatory banners containing students’ stories were also posted in the virtual space through prior registration.
Dong-Eui University has been conducting the ‘Metaverse Campus Implementation and Untact-based Ecosystem Creation’ program since April last year as a specialized project of the University Innovation Project Group.
In August last year, Dong-Eui University also unveiled the virtual campus under construction by the ‘Dong-Eui University Minecraft Crew 1st Generation’ students to commemorate the second semester graduation ceremony.
As part of the server opening event, campus tours, posting of graduation congratulatory banners, group photo sessions, and live broadcasts on the YouTube channel were conducted.
About 100 current students and alumni participated in the event via the Minecraft server.
Park Chang-joo, a computer engineering student and the leader of the Dong-Eui University Minecraft Crew 2nd Generation who organized the event, said, “We received feedback from the graduation event, improved the shortcomings, and added new mini-game content, and we plan to hold the entrance ceremony event on the 2nd.”
Park Chang-joo added, “Currently, the server is only open during event times, but once the Metaverse Crew stabilizes and the buildings are completed, we aim to keep the server open at all times so that anyone can tour the campus.”
Professor Ok Seung-ho of the Department of Robotics and Automation Engineering at Dong-Eui University, who is conducting the specialized project program, said, “We aim to respond to the rapidly changing educational environment and culture by researching untact-based AR·VR technology and developing content utilizing it.”
The Dong-Eui University Minecraft Crew 2nd Generation includes Professor Ok Seung-ho of Robotics and Automation Engineering, Professor Kim Yoon-hee of Fire and Disaster Prevention Administration, Professor Lee Sang-wook of Journalism and Broadcasting, and 15 students from various departments and majors such as Robotics and Automation Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Computer Engineering, Nursing, Advertising and Public Relations, Digital Content, Food and Nutrition, Mechanical Automotive Robot Parts Engineering, Computer Software Engineering, New Materials Engineering, and Chemical Environmental Engineering.
