Creation of SW·ICT Promotion Complex for 'Digital Industry Development' in Incheon Jemulpo
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Incheon City is taking the lead in fostering advanced industries by creating a 'Software (SW) and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Promotion Complex' in the Jemulpo area to drive the digital transformation of local industries and revitalize the old downtown area.
On the 21st, the city announced that it will promote the establishment of the 'SW·ICT Promotion Complex' to revitalize the economy and industry of the old downtown area in response to the Ministry of Science and ICT's plan to create regional digital hubs and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's urban regeneration New Deal policy, in line with the government's New Deal policy.
To this end, in December last year, the city received government approval for the SW Industry Promotion Group, an affiliate of Incheon Technopark, as the dedicated SW promotion agency for project implementation.
The SW·ICT Promotion Complex, to be built near the north plaza of Jemulpo Station on the Gyeongin Line 1, will be constructed at a cost of 36.6 billion KRW and will have three underground floors and ten above-ground floors by 2025.
The building will house a digital experience zone, a digital complex education center, a digital care center, an XR (Extended Reality) demonstration space, a youth startup accelerating center, and a demonstration analysis center.
The city plans to gather promising companies in the SW·ICT Promotion Complex and link it with surrounding facilities such as Jemulpo Smart Town (Startup and Creative Economy Innovation Center), IT Tower (venture companies), and Juan Industrial Complex.
Incheon is an industrial city developed mainly around manufacturing companies, but recently the total added value of manufacturing has been declining.
To improve corporate productivity and secure quality competitiveness, consulting and customized support for the digital transformation of existing industries are necessary.
Incheon City is promoting digital transformation and new industry development through so-called 'DNA' innovative technologies: Data, Network, and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The goals include digital transformation of 100 companies, nurturing 100,000 digital talents, supporting the growth of 1,000 digital innovation companies, and creating 10,000 jobs.
