According to the People Power Party's Jeju Election Committee on the 20th, on the 16th, someone threw a foreign substance at Yoon Seok-yeol candidate's election promotional banner hung on a street in Andeok-myeon, Seogwipo City, leading the police to launch an investigation. On the 18th, a report was filed with the Seogwipo Police Station that Yoon's banner attached to an apartment complex in the English Education City in Daejeong-eup, Seogwipo City, had completely disappeared. Additionally, a banner hung in front of the Daecheon-dong Office in Seogwipo City was found partially torn.
The police, upon receiving the report, have booked Mr. A for violating the Public Official Election Act for arbitrarily removing the banners and are investigating the purpose and circumstances of the damage.
According to Article 240 of the current Public Official Election Act, anyone who damages banners without justifiable reason shall be punished by imprisonment for up to two years or a fine of up to 4 million won.
The People Power Party's Jeju Election Committee stated, "We are appalled by the fact that illegal acts are being blatantly carried out despite this election needing to be cleaner and fairer than any other presidential election. This can only be seen as an act that denies democracy," and urged for strict punishment and rigorous law enforcement.
They added, "Let us ensure a clean and fair election during the remaining period," and proposed an agreement for fair election practices to all political parties in the province.
