Gmarket Sees Up to 62% Increase in Sales of Cleaning and Organizing Products
Demand Rises Due to Moving Season and Fine Dust... Cleaning Services Also Popular
[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] As more people prepare to welcome the upcoming spring with freshness, home cleaning products are experiencing a surge in demand. The easing cold weather combined with increased fine dust levels and the moving season are also analyzed to have driven the demand for related products.
According to the distribution industry on the 19th, cleaning products sold on Gmarket over the past month (January 16 to February 15) increased by up to 62% compared to the same period last year. Overall sales growth for cleaning products rose by 27%. Cleaning wipes and pads that make floor cleaning easier saw a 16% increase in sales, while cloths increased by 26%. Mold removers and bathroom cleaners used in bathrooms or utility rooms grew by 12% and 21%, respectively. Tape cleaners, effective for removing foreign substances from bedding or carpets, increased by 15% during the same period. Magic blocks, which help remove old grime from appliances and furniture, rose by 16%, and various dusters and dust removers sold 30% more. Air conditioner-specific cleaners also received a good response, selling 83% more.
Relatively high-priced cordless vacuum cleaners (19%) and robot vacuum cleaners (13%) also showed strong growth. Additionally, products that make waste disposal easier, such as recycling bins and food waste containers, sold 21% and 24% more, respectively.
Sales of organizing products that help make house cleaning easier also increased. Compression packs and hangers used to organize and store out-of-season winter clothes grew by 23% and 11%, respectively. Baskets used to organize miscellaneous items increased by 21%, and storage organizers rose by 29%. Frying pan racks (13%), plate racks (26%), and cutting board holders (18%) that help efficiently arrange kitchen appliances in cupboards also showed growth.
Professional cleaning and various installation services conducted by experts are also popular. Cleaning services showed a 62% increase, while installation and bathroom construction services rose by 20% and 34%, respectively.

A distribution industry official said, "As social distancing has extended the time spent at home, people seem to be paying more attention to cleanliness at home than ever before," adding, "This trend is expected to continue for the time being until COVID-19 stabilizes."
