Yoon Seok-yeol Targets Economy in Seoul Metropolitan Area... "The Most Important Thing Is Livelihood... Let's Drive Out the Forces That Plundered the People"
Targeting Youth and Moderate Voters in Anseong
Lee Jae-myung Focuses Criticism on Daejang-dong Allegations
Afternoon Meeting with Yoo Seung-min
[Asia Economy Reporters Junyi Park, Juhee Kang, Hyunji Kwon] Yoon Seok-yeol, the People Power Party's presidential candidate, who was traveling between the Gyeongbu Line and Honam-Gangwon regions, launched a campaign to capture the 'capital region vote.' Since this area has a high proportion of moderate voters and is the stronghold of Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party's presidential candidate, Yoon focused on economic issues such as real estate and taxes to counter the ruling party's attacks.
On this day, Yoon climbed onto a campaign vehicle in front of Anseong Central Market in Gyeonggi Province and shouted, "The most important thing is people's livelihood and reviving the economy," adding, "If we try to move forward for the future without driving out the forces that deceived and plundered the people, can we really progress?"
About 400 to 500 citizens gathered at the campaign site, creating a lively atmosphere. Unlike previous regional campaigns in Daegu and Busan, young people in their 20s to 40s and middle-aged citizens were also noticeably present. Among the citizens were placards criticizing Lee's alleged preferential treatment in the Daejang-dong development scandal, such as 'Daejang-dong mastermind 1 trillion won.'
Following two days of campaigning, Yoon devoted himself to criticizing the current administration and the Democratic Party. He sharply criticized Lee's involvement in the Daejang-dong scandal. Addressing Lee, he said, "It seems he is indeed very capable, having made someone who brought 350 million won receive nearly 1 trillion won," emphasizing, "Why give that only to Kim Man-bae and his group? All citizens should benefit."
He also criticized Lee's 'basic income theory.' Yoon said, "Does receiving basic income improve one's situation?" and added, "We should provide substantial welfare to those who are struggling and in hardship, but why distribute it to those who can live on their own?"
However, considering that this region has a high proportion of young voters interested in practical issues and a significant moderate voter base, Yoon tended to focus on economic issues. He questioned, "Anseong's housing price increase rate is 38%, ranking fourth in Gyeonggi Province," and asked, "This is not a densely populated area, so how did housing prices rise this much?"
As a pledge for the Anseong area, he emphasized support for the 'semiconductor industry.' Yoon promised, "Anseong has now emerged as a new hub for the semiconductor industry," and "If I become president, I will develop Anseong into a global semiconductor hub city."
Former lawmaker Kim Hak-yong, who was nominated for the parliamentary by-elections held alongside the presidential election, joined the campaign that day. At the start of the campaign, Yoon introduced Kim as "a talent perfectly suited for Anseong" and encouraged support.
Yoon will continue street campaigns in Suji District, Yongin, and Bundang District, Seongnam, in the afternoon. In Yongin, he will emphasize transportation pledges such as the addition of the GTX F line and early completion of the Second Gyeongbu Expressway, while in Seongnam, he promises improvements in real estate taxation and revitalization of redevelopment and reconstruction. He plans to campaign in front of Seokchon Lake in Songpa District and at the ice rink in Seocho District, criticizing the current administration's job and tax policies. He will then move to Dongmyo Station in Jongno District, known as the 'political number one district,' to conclude the campaign.

On the same day in the afternoon, Yoon will meet former lawmaker Yoo Seung-min, a primary candidate, at a cafe near the central party headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul. Yoo said in a phone interview with this paper the day before, "I agreed to meet because Yoon's side asked," and added, "I plan to announce that I will help with the election campaign."
