[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] The Ministry of Justice announced on the 16th that it has set up a temporary detention facility using tents to respond to the spread of COVID-19 within the Seoul Dongbu Detention Center.
To secure solitary quarantine for detainees, the Ministry of Justice installed 50 single-person tents inside the gymnasium of Dongbu Detention Center, converting it into a detention facility. Amenities such as heaters, refrigerators, books, shower facilities, and large TVs were also provided for the convenience of detainees. The facility is intended to house detainees who have tested positive for COVID-19 but are less contagious after one week.
On the same day, Minister of Justice Beom-gye Park visited the temporary detention facility to inspect overall quarantine measures at the detention center and discuss response plans with officials. Minister Park urged, "When operating the temporary detention facility, please manage detainees with special attention to their treatment and mental stability to prevent any human rights violations."
