Three Smart Art Museums and Museums to Operate in Incheon This Year... VR and AR History Experience
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Three smart museums and art galleries utilizing virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) will be operated within this year in Incheon.
On the 16th, Incheon City announced that three institutions?Songam Art Museum, Ganghwa Natural History Museum, and Ganghwa History Museum?were finally selected for the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's '2022 Smart Museum and Art Gallery Infrastructure Project' and will receive 650 million KRW in national funding.
Songam Art Museum, a branch of the Incheon Metropolitan Museum, will establish a customized smart book platform based on information and communication technology (ICT). Through this, it will complement the shortcomings of existing standardized online exhibition halls and present new ICT humanities convergence content combined with emotional elements.
Additionally, an English version of the virtual reality (VR) exhibition space accessible on both mobile and tablet devices will be created, allowing foreigners from around the world who cannot visit in person due to COVID-19 to view the exhibitions.
Ganghwa History Museum plans to build an experiential space using advanced media technology featuring the image of the 'Ganghwa Haengryeoldo' (Ganghwa Procession Painting).
The Ganghwa Haengryeoldo is a painting from 1849 depicting the procession to Ganghwa Island to welcome the reign of Cheoljong, the 25th king of the Joseon Dynasty, and is currently housed at the Korean Art Museum in North Korea. Once the experience zone is completed, visitors will be able to participate in the procession as if they were actually part of it.
Ganghwa Natural History Museum will utilize AR technology to create digital content of major exhibits and provide smart exhibition services.

These museums plan to complete system construction and begin pilot operations in December of this year.
