Ministry of Employment conducts search and seizure at Yeocheon NCC over 'Explosion Accident'... Investigating Possible Violation of Serious Accident Punishment Act (Update)
[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Lee Jun-hyung] The Ministry of Employment and Labor has begun a search and seizure operation at Yeochun NCC in connection with the explosion accident at the Yeosu National Industrial Complex in Jeonnam, which resulted in 8 casualties.
The Gwangju Labor Office of the Ministry of Employment and Labor announced that, starting from 9 a.m. on the 14th, it is conducting a search and seizure at the Yeochun NCC site office in cooperation with the police. The Gwangju Labor Office has deployed 35 personnel, including labor inspectors responsible for investigating serious accidents and digital forensic labor inspectors, to Yeochun NCC to secure evidence to prove violations of the Industrial Safety and Health Act and the Serious Accidents Punishment Act.
The Ministry of Employment and Labor's search and seizure comes three days after the explosion accident. On the 11th, an explosion occurred at Yeochun NCC's Plant 3, resulting in 4 worker deaths and 4 injuries. Earlier, on the 12th, the day after the accident, the Gwangju Labor Office booked the plant manager of Yeochun NCC on charges of violating the Industrial Safety and Health Act.

Based on the materials secured through the search and seizure, the Ministry of Employment and Labor plans to summon related personnel from the site and headquarters. The Ministry intends to promptly investigate not only the violations of the Industrial Safety and Health Act but also whether the management was fulfilling their obligations to ensure safety and health under the Serious Accidents Punishment Act.
