Rising Tensions in Ukraine... US National Security Advisor Says "Russia Could Take Military Action at Any Moment"
[Asia Economy New York=Special Correspondent Joselgina] Amid escalating tensions surrounding Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Jake Sullivan, the U.S. White House National Security Advisor, warned on the 13th (local time) that a large-scale military action by Russia could begin at any moment.
Advisor Sullivan appeared on CNN that day and stated that Russia is at a stage where it could launch an attack before the closing of the Beijing Winter Olympics on the 20th.
Sullivan mentioned, "Considering Russia's troop buildup methods and operational execution, there is a clear possibility of a large-scale military action soon." He also added, "If Russia invades, we are prepared to respond in a united and resolute manner with our allies and partners."
Despite a phone negotiation the previous day between U.S. President Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin, it appears that both sides have not found a solution to the military tensions surrounding Ukraine. Earlier, on the 11th, Advisor Sullivan also warned of this risk by urging U.S. citizens residing in Ukraine to evacuate.
Russia, which annexed Ukraine's Crimean Peninsula in 2014, has recently deployed more than 100,000 troops along the Ukrainian border. U.S. intelligence agencies assess that a Russian invasion of Ukraine could occur at any time.
John Kirby, the Pentagon spokesperson, also appeared on Fox News that day and stated that a large-scale Russian military operation could happen at any moment. He added that the time for diplomatic progress is gradually running out.
