[Olympics] Skeleton Jung Seung-gi 10th Place · Yoon Sung-bin 12th Place
Struggling to Accelerate Mid-Race
Gold and Silver Medals to Germany, Bronze to China
Korean male skeleton athletes failed to win medals at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. Seung-gi Jeong (Catholic Kwandong University) recorded a total time of 4 minutes 03.74 seconds over four runs in the men's skeleton event held on the 11th at the National Sliding Center in Yanqing, Beijing, China, finishing 10th among 25 competitors. Yoon Sung-bin (Gangwon Province Office), who became the first Asian to win a sled gold medal at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, placed two spots lower in 12th place (4 minutes 04.09 seconds). Both athletes struggled to accelerate from the middle of the track. Due to the spread of COVID-19, they were unable to gain sufficient experience in international competitions, making it difficult to perform at their best. However, by finishing around the top 10, they proved that their achievements in Pyeongchang were not a coincidence.

The gold and silver medals were claimed by Germany. Christopher Grotheer won with a time of 4 minutes 01.01 seconds, and Axel Jungk took second place, trailing by 0.66 seconds. This is the first time Germany has won a medal in this event. Previously, Germany swept all four luge events, winning all five sled gold medals awarded so far. The bronze medal went to Yan Wengang of China, who benefited from the home advantage.
