According to the quarantine authorities, Seoul city, and other local governments, the total number of new COVID-19 cases confirmed nationwide in 17 cities and provinces from midnight to 6 PM was 42,938. This is 577 fewer than the previous record of 43,515 cases reported during the same time frame the day before, and about 2.2 times higher compared to 18,811 cases reported a week earlier on the 4th.
Since there is still time until midnight when the tally closes, the number of new confirmed cases to be announced on the 12th is expected to increase further. On this day, 27,006 cases (62.9%) were reported in the metropolitan area, and 15,932 cases (37.1%) in non-metropolitan areas.
