Yoo Seung-jun Visa Issuance Lawsuit, Sentencing Date Canceled... Resumption of Arguments
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] Singer Yoo Seung-jun (46, U.S. name Steve Seung-jun Yoo) has resumed arguments ahead of the first trial verdict in his second lawsuit requesting the issuance of a visa to enter South Korea.
According to the legal community on the 11th, the Seoul Administrative Court Administrative Division 5 (Chief Judge Jung Sang-gyu), which is hearing Yoo's lawsuit against the Consulate General in Los Angeles (LA) seeking cancellation of the refusal to issue a passport and visa, canceled the verdict date originally scheduled for the 14th and decided to resume arguments on the same day.
This resumption was decided after the court accepted the defendant's request. The court plans to hold an additional hearing on March 21 to continue examining whether the LA Consulate General's refusal to issue the visa was appropriate.
Yoo had acquired U.S. citizenship to avoid mandatory military service in the past, resulting in a restriction on his entry to South Korea in 2002. He later attempted to enter with an overseas Korean entry visa but was denied issuance, filed an administrative lawsuit in 2015, and won a final ruling in 2020.
At that time, the Supreme Court ruled that the LA Consulate General's refusal to issue a visa without exercising discretion and solely based on the previous Ministry of Justice's entry ban decision was illegal.

After the final ruling in his favor, Yoo applied for a visa again but was refused once more. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained that the refusal was made through proper procedures in accordance with the Supreme Court's judgment. Consequently, Yoo filed another administrative lawsuit in October 2020 against the LA Consulate General, seeking cancellation of the refusal to issue the visa.
