Wando Coast Guard, Joint Public-Private Firefighting Drill for Moored Fishing Boats
Inspection of Response Readiness with Jangheung Fire Department and Volunteer Fire Brigade at Hoejin Port, Jangheung, Jeonnam
[Wando=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyungpil] On the 11th, the Jeonnam Wando Maritime Police Station announced that it conducted a joint response readiness inspection with related agencies in preparation for fire incidents on moored fishing vessels.
The training held on the 10th took place at Hoejin Port in Jangheung County and was conducted together with Jangheung Fire Station and the Volunteer Fire Brigade.
According to Wando Maritime Police, amid the ongoing risk of ship fires due to recent construction warnings, a joint drill was conducted to strengthen fire suppression response capabilities on sea and land as well as marine pollution prevention capabilities following fire incidents.
This training focused on preventing casualties and property damage caused by the chain spread of fires to adjacent vessels in case of fire on moored fishing boats at ports and harbors, mainly by separating and moving moored vessels.
Subsequently, the Wando Maritime Police Hoejin Substation coastal rescue boat, one fire truck, one 119 ambulance, and about 15 volunteer firefighters were mobilized to proceed sequentially from emergency call reception to fire suppression and marine pollution prevention.
Kim Hyuncheon, chief of the Hoejin Substation of Wando Maritime Police, said, “In case of fire on moored fishing vessels, rapid initial response and prevention of chain damage spread are crucial,” adding, “We will do our best to protect public safety and property through regular readiness inspections with related agencies.”
