Damyang Bamboo Festival Canceled, Replaced by Small-Scale Events Like Landscape Development Projects

The Damyang Bamboo Festival is an eco-friendly festival held with bamboo as the theme, showcasing various programs that allow the entire nation to appreciate the diverse values of bamboo. It was selected as a cultural tourism festival from 2020 to 2022 and is Damyang-gun's representative festival, attracting more than 500,000 visitors annually.
Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do, announced on the 11th that after holding a board meeting of the Damyang Bamboo Festival Committee on the 9th to discuss the festival's hosting plans, it decided to pause (cancel) the 22nd Damyang Bamboo Festival and proceed with alternative projects such as landscape creation.
The board was newly organized through an extraordinary general meeting in October last year, appointing Chairman Kim Iltae (Professor at Chonnam National University, 2-year term) to discuss various plans for hosting the festival.
Due to the recent surge in variant virus cases and quarantine guidelines recommending the cancellation of face-to-face festivals, the festival has been canceled to prevent local infections and ensure the safety of residents and tourists. Instead, landscape creation will proceed, and small-scale events will be held later depending on changes in quarantine guidelines.
