Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office Rejects Meeting Request from Democratic Party Lawmakers "Neutrality and Fairness Must Be Respected"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] On the 11th, the Democratic Party of Korea's parliamentary group visited the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office in protest regarding the Deutsche Motors stock manipulation suspicion case and requested a meeting with officials, but their request was denied.
The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office issued a statement that day, saying, "While it is important for the prosecution to gather various opinions, the values of political neutrality and fairness must also be respected during the investigation process," and added, "In this regard, please understand that it will be difficult to accommodate meeting requests from both ruling and opposition parties for the time being."
They continued, "We will continue to uphold the law and principles and do our best without bias based on the established facts and evidence."
Secretary-General Kim Young-jin, Chief Deputy Floor Leader Han Byung-do, Chairperson of the Administrative Safety Committee Seo Young-kyo, and Secretary of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee Park Joo-min visited the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office that morning and requested a meeting with Chief Prosecutor Lee Jung-soo.
However, when the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office did not respond to the meeting request, they held a press conference in front of the building stating that "the prosecution must immediately summon Kim Gun-hee, wife of Yoon Seok-youl, the People Power Party's presidential candidate," and then left the premises.
