[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Lee Junhyung] The ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) cooperation ecosystem between large corporations and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) is expanding.

On the 10th, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced that it held the launch ceremony of the 'Large and Small-Medium Enterprise ESG Cooperation Network Forum' jointly with the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Korea Productivity Center, and the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation. About 30 participants, including key companies and financial institution officials from industries such as electronics, automobiles, refining, and food, as well as ESG experts, attended the forum.

The forum was established to create an ESG cooperation ecosystem between large corporations and their partner companies. The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy plans to hold the forum monthly to share major issues and response measures, such as ESG disclosures commonly applied across all industries, with the industrial sector. The ministry intends to focus the forum on supply chain due diligence in key industries, analysis and provision of ESG evaluation items, and the development of joint response measures between large corporations and SMEs and mid-sized companies.

To enhance the ESG capabilities of SMEs and mid-sized companies, specific plans for utilizing and applying the K-ESG Guidelines and SME-type ESG Guidelines will also be presented. Previously, in December last year, the ministry prepared the K-ESG Guidelines, which include common ESG evaluation indicators and compliance requirements from major domestic and international evaluation and disclosure institutions. This year, an ESG guideline tailored for SMEs will also be announced.

Choi Namho, Director of Industrial Policy at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, said, "Both large corporations and SMEs and mid-sized companies face many difficulties in managing and responding to supply chain ESG." He added, "We will steadily support the K-ESG platform, which has been under preparation since last year, and the ESG pilot projects for export SMEs and mid-sized companies."
