The Arboretum announced on the 9th that it secured 13,972 seed information records on 748 native plant species, including 27 types of information such as seed collection, cultivation, and storage last year.
The acquisition of native plant information was promoted as part of the "Native Plant Seed Information IP (Information Provider) System Construction" project. This project, supported by a 10 billion KRW national participation budget over five years starting last year, aims to build big data with over 115,000 seed information records for 2,954 seed species totaling 15,000 cases.
The Arboretum also established an informatization strategy for public disclosure of seed information. Starting this year, it began building a seed information management and utilization system to prepare a framework by 2025 that can be used by industries, forestry and farming households, research institutions, and individuals.
Through this, by providing native plant information to the entire nation, the Arboretum plans to raise public interest in seed preservation and utilization and contribute to the development of the domestic seed industry.
