"Brake Not Working"... 80-Year-Old Man Who Caused Car Crash Killing Grandmother and Granddaughter Sent to Prosecution

According to the police on the 9th, on December 22, 2021, at Paldo Market in Suyeong-gu, Busan, Mr. A started the engine of a parked vehicle and began to move. The vehicle suddenly accelerated, collided with a parked car, and then struck the passing grandmother and granddaughter, causing their deaths.
At the time of the accident, a nearby Yakult electric vehicle also exploded.
Mr. A claimed, "As I started the parked vehicle, it gained speed, and although I pressed the brake, it did not work."
Analysis of the vehicle's black box and CCTV by the Road Traffic Authority confirmed that the speed before the collision was 74.1 km/h.
Additionally, inspection of the vehicle's braking system found no defects that could have caused malfunction, and it was reported that it was impossible to determine whether sudden unintended acceleration occurred.
The speed limit at the accident site was 30 km/h.

The police judged the incident to be due to Mr. A's negligence in vehicle operation and sent the case to the prosecution on charges of violating the Special Act on Traffic Accidents.
