[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyun-joo] Kim Seung-won, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, claimed that Yoon Seok-yeol, the People Power Party's presidential candidate, spent 14.7 billion KRW in cash from special activity funds during his tenure as Prosecutor General. Ko Min-jung, also from the Democratic Party, supported this claim, prompting the People Power Party to respond by calling it a "false negative campaign."
Earlier, at the National Assembly Budget and Accounts Committee plenary session, Representative Kim revealed data related to Yoon’s special activity funds during his time as Prosecutor General, obtained from the Ministry of Justice, stating, "There is a calculation that Candidate Yoon spent 14.7 billion KRW in cash from special activity funds during his tenure as Prosecutor General," and added, "there are no usage details or attached receipts. It appears the entire amount was spent in cash."
Kim continued, "A civic group filed an information disclosure request with the court to reveal those details, and the civic group almost won the case," adding, "Candidate Yoon is currently avoiding disclosure by appealing against the release of the Prosecutor General’s business promotion expenses at that time."
In response, Representative Ko also posted on her Facebook page that day, asking, "Where is the 14.7 billion KRW in special activity funds from when Yoon Seok-yeol was Prosecutor General?"
The People Power Party expressed displeasure, calling it a "baseless suspicion." The party’s public relations office issued a statement that day saying, "Representative Kim Seung-won raised baseless suspicions that Candidate Yoon Seok-yeol spent approximately 14.7 billion KRW in special activity funds during his tenure as Prosecutor General," and "The Prosecutor General at that time executed the special activity funds allocated according to the government budget for designated purposes and through lawful procedures, and we clearly state that there was no irregularity or illegality in the process."

The People Power Party further stated, "Former Minister of Justice Chu Mi-ae ordered an inspection of the special activity funds to undermine and oust Candidate Yoon, thoroughly investigating and verifying the matter in the National Assembly," adding, "However, despite no problems being found, they are once again raising this as a new issue and conducting a false negative campaign."
