Lee Jun-seok "Poll Unification? Unreasonable for Ahn's Position"
Appeared on KBS Radio on the 8th to comment on 'Yoon Seok-yeol and Ahn Cheol-soo unification'
[Asia Economy Reporter Kum Bo-ryeong] Lee Jun-seok, the leader of the People Power Party, expressed his stance on the 'Yoon Seok-yeol - Ahn Cheol-soo unification,' stating, "What is commonly referred to as unification narrowly means unification through opinion polls. However, considering the situation of Ahn Cheol-soo, the presidential candidate of the People’s Party, such a method is not feasible."
On the morning of the 8th, Lee appeared on KBS Radio's "Choi Kyung-young's Strong Current Affairs" and said, "Although we are not directly communicating with Ahn’s side, we are not considering unification through opinion polls or similar methods at all."
He was also negative about the effect of unification between Yoon Seok-yeol, the People Power Party’s presidential candidate, and Ahn. Lee explained, "As analyzed since early January, a significant portion of Yoon’s support had shifted to Ahn but has since returned to Yoon. Therefore, the current support for Ahn may be somewhat distant from conservative tendencies. Even if something is achieved through the unification process, the party internally perceives that it would be difficult for that support to be fully absorbed by Yoon."
Lee viewed the upcoming 11th as an important political decision point. He said, "After this weekend, Ahn will effectively enter election mode. Then, it will be difficult to participate in the election and then withdraw, considering the considerable expenses involved. Therefore, I think political decisions will likely need to be made before this Friday, before the weekend."
