"The Mathematician in the Strange Land" (directed by Park Dong-hoon) depicts the story of a genius mathematician who defected from North Korea and works as a high school security guard while hiding his identity, and his encounter with a student who has given up on math.
Actor Choi Min-sik returns to the screen as Lee Hak-seong, the genius mathematician who defected from North Korea. Hak-seong, dressed in a familiar uniform, lives as a night security guard while concealing his identity. He meets Han Ji-woo (Kim Dong-hwi), a high school student who has given up on math, and teaches him the joy of mathematics and the process of finding the correct answers.

The film features a variety of characters, including Geun-ho (Park Byung-eun), a math teacher at Donghoon High School, one of South Korea's top 1% private high schools, and Han Ji-woo's homeroom teacher; Gi-cheol (Park Hae-joon), Lee Hak-seong's only friend; and Bo-ram (Jo Yoon-seo), Han Ji-woo's friend with a strong personality, enriching the story.
