LG Uplus Targets 'Kids Customers' with Budget Phones Ahead of New Semester
U+ Altteulpon Partners 15 Business Operators Participate
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] LG Uplus is expanding the target audience of its affordable MVNO service, known for its low prices, to include child customers.
LG Uplus announced on the 6th that it will hold a promotion targeting child customers for the new school semester in collaboration with small and medium-sized MVNO partner companies.
This promotion gifts two types of ‘Decoden Phone Decoration Sets’ to all child customers who subscribe to the MVNO service through 15 operators affiliated with U+ MVNO Partners. Customers who newly subscribe to the postpaid U+ MVNO plans from providers such as ‘Keunsaram’ and ‘Smartel’ and were born in 2010 or later are eligible.
The event was planned based on the trend of kids inheriting their parents’ smartphones and combining them with affordable MVNO plans. The prizes were selected through a survey targeting employees with elementary school children. Considering the diverse devices used in MVNO services, the prizes were chosen for their usability regardless of device model and high preference among children. LG Uplus fully funds the prizes.
During the promotion period, LG Uplus will give various gifts to MVNO subscribers. Child customers are automatically entered into the event upon subscribing to the MVNO service, with a lottery to win prizes such as an iPhone 13 (1 winner), a Dyson humidifier (1 winner), and Shilla Hotel dining vouchers for two (10 winners).
A prize event is also held through the MVNO specialized online site ‘MVNO Hub’. During the event period, which runs through this month, customers who newly subscribe to MVNO services from eight small and medium operators using the U+ network via the ‘MVNO Hub’ site will receive gift sets consisting of shampoo, toothpaste, and other items. The partner companies are ▲Smartel ▲Eyes Mobile ▲A Mobile ▲Uplus MVNO ▲Hello Mobile ▲Pretty ▲Iyagi Mobile ▲Mobing, totaling eight companies.
Customers who purchase the integrated USIM ‘One Chip’ (8,800 KRW), available at Emart24, and then subscribe to an MVNO service will also receive a coffee coupon worth approximately 13,500 KRW. The One Chip is a universal USIM that can activate all MVNO plans using the U+ network.
Yu Hoseong, head of LG Uplus’s MVNO business division, said, “This promotion was prepared to expand the customer base of MVNOs, which have recently attracted attention from the MZ generation as a target of ‘reasonable consumption,’ to include children, while also supporting small and medium operators. We will continue to become a U+ MVNO preferred by consumers of various age groups through multiple promotions.”
