Yeonggwang Bulgapsan Sangsa Flower Festival Selected as Jeollanam-do Representative Festival in 2022
[Yeonggwang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jeonseong] The 'Yeonggwang Bulgapsan Sangsa Flower Festival,' a representative autumn flower festival in Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do, has been honored by being selected as a 2022 Jeollanam-do Representative Festival.
On the 4th, the county announced that the Yeonggwang Bulgapsan Sangsa Flower Festival was selected as one of the top 10 representative festivals this year at the Jeollanam-do Representative Festival Selection Committee held online last month, alongside festivals such as the Mokpo Harbor Festival and Yeosu Turtle Ship Festival.
This achievement marks the fourth consecutive selection from 2018 to 2020, excluding 2021 when no representative festivals were selected due to COVID-19.
Despite the cancellation of the festival for the past two years due to COVID-19, the county maintained the festival's legacy by operating a flower viewing period focused on quarantine measures, attracting approximately 220,000 tourists.
The fact that no COVID-19 cases occurred due to thorough quarantine management and the plan to hold on- and offline festival programs suitable for the COVID-19 era this year appear to have been key factors in the selection.
With this representative festival selection, the county secured 20 million KRW in provincial funds to be used for festival development, as well as gaining external promotional benefits, achieving two goals at once.
The Yeonggwang Bulgapsan Sangsa Flower Festival is scheduled to be held for 10 days from September 16 to 25.
Additionally, reflecting trends in the COVID-19 era, the festival plans to develop on- and offline content and, based on quarantine know-how accumulated over the past two years, will focus on safety measures such as temperature checks, disinfection, and one-way traffic to create a festival that visitors can attend with peace of mind.
Main programs under consideration include online contests such as Sangsa Flower wishes, online specialty product sales using influencers, SNS Sangsa Flower beauty contests, and Sangsa Flower Festival five-line acrostic poem events, offering differentiated online programs.
They also plan to strengthen content to develop the festival into a night-stay type event by introducing media facades and operating a project media exhibition hall.
A county official said, “Although the local atmosphere was depressed due to the inability to hold the festival for the past two years because of COVID-19, the efforts of the festival promotion committee and staff who devoted themselves to quarantine made it possible to be selected as a representative festival.”
He added, “In celebration of this year being the Year of Visiting Jeollanam-do, we will thoroughly prepare to successfully hold the newly introduced on- and offline Yeonggwang Bulgapsan Sangsa Flower Festival.”
