Semiconductor Supply Shortage Persists... Kia's Domestic and International Sales Down 6% YoY Last Month
Domestic down 10.7% and overseas down 4.6% compared to the same period last year
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Kia announced on the 4th that it sold 212,819 units domestically and internationally last month. This is a 5.7% decrease compared to the same period last year.
In the domestic market, 37,038 units were sold, down 5.7% from the same month last year. Overseas sales decreased by 4.6% to 175,781 units. The production and supply disruptions were due to a shortage of semiconductor parts. However, the company explained that the semiconductor parts supply issue is gradually improving, as production and sales increased compared to the previous month, December of last year.
The best-selling model domestically was the Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) Sorento, with 5,066 units sold. Along with this, a total of 18,848 units of RV models were sold, including 4,455 units of Sportage, 4,114 units of Carnival, and 3,468 units of Seltos. Passenger car models sold a total of 13,485 units, including 3,598 units of Ray, 3,342 units of K5, and 2,566 units of K8. A total of 4,705 units of buses and trucks were sold, including 4,520 units of Bongo III.
Overseas, Seltos became the best-selling model with 23,505 units sold. Sportage followed with 22,766 units, and Pride (Rio) with 16,456 units. Combining domestic and overseas sales, Sportage was the top-selling model with 27,221 units.

A company official stated, "Although management uncertainty continues due to semiconductor parts supply disruptions, we will minimize the impact on supply delays by adjusting vehicle production schedules. Since September last year, vehicle production has been increasing, and within the first quarter, we plan to increase market share and profitability through the transition to a three-shift system at the India plant, new model launches, and sales strategies."
