South Korea-US Foreign Ministers Express "Strong Concern" Over North Korea Missile Launch
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] On the 3rd, Foreign Minister Chung Eui-yong held a phone call with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and condemned North Korea's launch of a medium-range ballistic missile. It has been about three weeks since the last call between the foreign ministers of South Korea and the U.S. on the 15th of last month.
Both South Korea and the U.S. expressed strong concerns over North Korea's recent series of missile launches, including the medium-range ballistic missile launch, and the advancement of North Korea's missile capabilities.
The two ministers agreed to cooperate closely based on tight coordination between South Korea and the U.S. to encourage North Korea to come to the dialogue promptly, reaffirming the principle that issues on the Korean Peninsula should be resolved diplomatically through dialogue.
The two ministers also exchanged views on trilateral cooperation among South Korea, the U.S., and Japan, as well as recent developments in key regions such as Ukraine and Myanmar.
On the South Korean side, it was agreed to work closely with the U.S. based on vaccine and medical supplies production capabilities in response to COVID-19.
