Elegant Tech Course "Let's Walk Only the Flower Path of Nekarakubae"
Baemin Developer Training Program... Some Competition Rates Reach 18 to 1
1st Cohort IT Company Employment Rate Hits 95%
Kakao, Naver Financial, LINE, Coupang, Woowa Brothers. These companies are collectively referred to as ‘Nekarakuba,’ a term used by recent IT industry job seekers to describe the companies they want to work for. Added to this list are Danggeun Market, Yanolja, Toss, and Samsung Electronics. There is an educational program that has produced developers for these companies that anyone learning programming dreams of joining. It is ‘Woowa Tech Course,’ created by Woowa Brothers, the operator of Baedal Minjok (Baemin). Amid a severe shortage of developers from large corporations to startups, Baemin’s training program is emerging as a cradle for excellent practical developers.
According to Woowa Brothers on the 7th, the competition rate for the 4th Woowa Tech Course, which runs for 10 months starting this month, was about 18 to 1 for the web backend course and 15 to 1 for the web frontend course. The web backend course covers development areas related to the configuration and optimization of databases (DB), servers, and more, while the web frontend course, added from the 3rd session last year, deals with areas related to the operation of web design visible to users. This year, a total of 1,487 people applied for the web backend course, which selected 81 students, and 593 applied for the web frontend course, which selected 40 students.
Woowa Brothers started the Woowa Tech Course in 2019 for those who want to learn programming and live a developer’s life. It was to solve the IT developer manpower shortage problem and nurture excellent developers needed across the industry. It is a kind of vocational school for people who want to get a job as developers. The entire tuition fee for the approximately 10-month training course is supported by Woowa Brothers. So far, three cohorts have graduated, and the 4th cohort’s training has now begun.
The achievements so far have also been remarkable. The first cohort, with 45 graduates, achieved an employment rate of about 95%, successfully finding jobs at domestic IT companies including Woowa Brothers, Coupang, Kakao, Kakao Pay, Naver Financial, WEMAKEPRICE, MyRealTrip, and Yanolja. The second cohort graduated 50 students with an employment rate reaching 96%. The range of companies where graduates found jobs expanded from IT giants like Samsung Electronics, Coupang, Kakao, LINE, and Kakao Enterprise to promising startups such as MyRealTrip, Backpacker, and Dreamery. The third cohort, which completed training at the end of November last year, currently records an employment rate of 73% for the web backend course and 80% for the web frontend course.
Regarding these achievements, Woowa Brothers pointed out that the program’s success was due to its structure, which focuses on equipping students with practical development skills that can be immediately applied in the workplace, addressing the significant gap between the practical skills expected in the field and the programming knowledge taught at universities. Students also cite the advantage of Woowa Tech Course as the ability to receive feedback from current developers working in programming fields, enabling tailored, field-oriented education. The training program follows a four-stage curriculum starting from programming basics, web programming, team projects, to advanced web programming. In addition to completing programming missions at each stage, students also engage in writing and presentations to develop communication skills necessary in the workplace.
