Lee Jun-seok "No Situation for Ahn's Approval Rating to Surge"... Kwon Eun-hee "Lee Jun-seok Dividing, Dark Future for the Main Opposition Party"
Debate Continues Between Both Sides Over Unification
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] The People Power Party and the People’s Party continued their sharp exchanges over candidate unification, raising the level of their attacks on each other while claiming to have no interest in unification.
On the 3rd, Kwon Eun-hee, floor leader of the People’s Party, appeared on MBC Radio’s ‘Kim Jong-bae’s Focus’ and firmly stated that there is "no" unification between Ahn Cheol-soo, the People’s Party presidential candidate, and Yoon Seok-youl, the People Power Party presidential candidate. Regarding Lee Jun-seok, leader of the People Power Party, mentioning online advertising contracts and campaign vehicle contracts as measures of unification, she said, "Do we really have to explain those parts?" and added, "We have already signed the contracts." This indicates that preparations for completing the presidential race are underway without postponing online contracts, regardless of unification considerations.
She continued, "I wonder if I should help Lee Jun-seok, who is self-generating unification," and said, "Leader Lee has not uttered a single word about what kind of Republic of Korea he wants to lead, except for regime change. I hope he takes responsibility for those parts that a candidate, especially the leader of the main opposition party, should fulfill."
On the other hand, Leader Lee continued his offensive against candidate Ahn. He appeared on KBS Radio’s ‘Choi Kyung-young’s Strong Current Affairs’ and said, "We need to look at unification coldly and based on data," adding, "I have doubts about whether it actually helps the election." He said, "Previously, candidate Ahn spoke somewhat arrogantly while temporarily absorbing the drop in support for our candidate (Yoon), but he has experienced a decline in support due to overconfidence in many elections so far," and added, "I have doubts about whether there will be any situation where unification will bring benefits in the future."
Leader Lee said, "In professional baseball, after a season starts, there is an initial flash of success, but by the time it goes down, it goes down," and added, "I don’t think there is any reason for candidate Ahn’s support rate to rebound sharply."
Regarding THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense), both sides showed differing views. Leader Lee said about concerns over China’s backlash regarding additional THAAD deployment, "Purchasing it on one’s own is a different matter," and added, "The people will clearly see who is the candidate actively responding to the increasing missile threat from North Korea."

Floor leader Kwon said, "I think it is quite dangerous to separate support and opposition regarding THAAD and to ideologize and divide people," and added, "This is a regression of the Republic of Korea to the past, and I think the future of the main opposition party is bleak as the young party leader casually shows these typical and old-fashioned behaviors."
