View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Juhee] Song Young-gil, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, claimed that "the fact that Kim Geon-hee, spouse of Yoon Seok-yeol, the People Power Party's presidential candidate, repeatedly contacted Prosecutor Han Dong-hoon is a bigger issue" in relation to the so-called 'protocol controversy' involving Kim Hye-kyung, spouse of presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung.
On the 2nd, in an interview with JTBC Newsroom, when asked about the party's stance on the Kim Hye-kyung controversy, Song responded, "Isn't it a serious problem that Kim Geon-hee, as the wife of the Prosecutor General, made nine phone calls and exchanged 332 KakaoTalk messages with Prosecutor Han Dong-hoon over four months during the previous prosecution-media collusion incident?"
He continued, "Putting aside personal errands, if the Prosecutor General's wife commands and directs the prosecutor as if he were her subordinate, isn't that a serious problem?"
When asked whether the Democratic Party or the election campaign committee plans to investigate Kim Hye-kyung's protocol controversy, Song said, "I think they should handle that issue themselves," and refrained from elaborating.
Recently, some media outlets reported multiple times allegations that Kim Hye-kyung had her private errands done by A, a special grade 7 public official who worked in the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Secretary's Office during Lee's tenure as governor of Gyeonggi Province, such as having her medicine prescribed on her behalf and handling her son's discharge procedures.
In response, Kim Hye-kyung issued a statement on the 2nd saying, "There were things that should not have happened. My heart aches thinking about how difficult it must have been for A, who must have suffered during that time," and apologized, saying, "I once again apologize to the public for causing concern."
She added, "It was all my fault. I should have clearly distinguished between public and private matters, but I received help because of my acquaintance with Mr. B. However, I did not receive constant assistance." The Mr. B mentioned by Kim Hye-kyung is a grade 5 public official at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government who instructed A to handle Kim Hye-kyung's private affairs.
