Sim Sang-jung: "Bipartisan Debate Collusion is a Second Satellite Party Scandal" Begins Overnight Sit-in Protest
Overnight Sit-in Protest on the 30th Condemning Bipartisan Debate Collusion and Demanding Debate Withdrawal
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] On the 30th, Sim Sang-jung, the Justice Party presidential candidate, condemned the one-on-one debate between Lee Jae-myung of the Democratic Party and Yoon Seok-youl of the People Power Party and decided to start an overnight sit-in protest.
On this day, Candidate Sim held an "Emergency Presidential Election Strategy Committee to Condemn the One-on-One Debate" at the Justice Party Central Party meeting room, stating, "The Democratic Party and the People Power Party are crossing the line of 'lawlessness,'" and pointed out, "They are heading toward a second satellite party incident by colluding to protect the vested interests of the two parties."
Candidate Sim said, "If the two parties collude, laws become useless, the National Election Commission is unnecessary, and they arrogantly engage in hegemonic politics by doing everything to suit their tastes," adding, "They intend to enjoy privileges through all sorts of foul play, ignoring even the 70% public opinion favoring a multi-party debate. Candidates Lee Jae-myung and Yoon Seok-youl should come down under the law and step onto a fair ring watched by the people."
Representative Yeo Young-guk also said at the venue, "Following the court, the National Election Commission also judged that one-on-one debates broadcasted live or recorded by broadcasting stations and media outlets are illegal. They have effectively stated that one-on-one debates should not be held," and criticized, "Despite both the judiciary and the National Election Commission making the same judgment, insisting on pushing forward with the one-on-one debate is a cunning collusion, an anti-democratic tyranny, and arrogance."
He said, "Stop the cunning debate immediately," and added, "What the people want now is a multi-party debate on the 31st to discuss the spirit of the times to overcome inequality and discrimination weighing on the shoulders of the people and the climate crisis."
Candidate Sim and the Justice Party plan to hold an overnight sit-in protest starting at 6 p.m. in front of the National Assembly Members' Office Building to urge the withdrawal of the collusion on the one-on-one debate.
